Written By: Jiban Kundu - ফেব্রু• 01•11

European Painting has a chronological, continuous history, where as Indian painting has no recorded continuity of history as at different era of Indian history of painting it was obliterated by the then political turmoil as we all know that India was invaded by the intruders several times before it gets her independence on and from 15th August 1947.

So, its history of Art and Paint is not integrated but abrupt and discrete.

For the craze of expanding dynasty or to get the rich resource of India, more often the foreign intruders made India captive more than once, as a result of it, the people of the then India could not concentrate on Art and Painting rather they had to struggle more often for their existence.

Despite the aforesaid vital hindrances, Indian Folk Art kept its traditional continuity through inheritance till date. Among these Kangrha Painting, Madhubani Painting , Basoli Painting are quite mention worthy. These folk Paintings consist of the characteristics of the region and place, where they were cultivated upon and the nature of people, who originated it.  As a result of it each of the aforesaid paintings has its own distinct characteristics bearing the cultural heritage of its genre from where it has originated.

As India is a large country having too many diversity in geographical point of view and thus also has variety of people having different nature,  culture, religion, dialect, food habit and life style, Indian Folk art is enriched with different diversified cultural, religious embodiments which we can observe distinctly in these creative Folk Paintings.

Even these Folk Paintings bear the testimony of Indian’s cultural, historical, religious significance of past and of present and also can give hint of a future.
